Syllabus

Course objectives and learning outcomes
Understand how innovation, data, open banking, artificial intelligence and platforms are reshaping payments, credit, wealth management, insurance and investing.

Learn to read a fintech business model and assess risks, advantages, entry barriers and scaling potential.

Connect technology and strategy: make-or-buy choices, partnerships, provider integration and growth paths.

Make the course relevant across many professional roles: startups, banks, consulting, product management, risk, compliance, venture capital, corporate innovation and policy.


Entrance requirement
No formal prerequisites are required.

A basic knowledge of economics, finance or management is helpful.

Students are expected to read the materials and prepare the cases before class.


Contents
Session 1, drivers of innovation: fintech acceleration, demographics, trust, technology and open banking.

Session 2, democratisation of services: trading, wealth management, remittances, robo-advisory and crowdfunding.

Session 3, business models and technology choices: make or buy, with the case “Choosing between two lending models”.

Session 4, insurance and new technologies: data, pricing, UX, platforms and new entrants.

Session 5, venture capital, corporate venture capital and corporate innovation.

Session 6, big tech, financial inclusion, conclusions and final presentations.

Teaching and learning methods and activities
Short lectures supported by slides and guided discussion.

Case analysis and in-class debate on opportunities, risks and strategic choices.

Pre-class reading of the materials and active participation in discussion.

Preparation of the final presentation / project work required by the course.


Test and assessment criteria
PASS / FAIL / RITIRATTO

Assessment based on attendance and submission of the final presentation.

Bibliography/Study materials
No single mandatory textbook.

Main materials: slides, case study and selected readings shared during the course.

Additional readings may be suggested for each session.

Course language: English.

The course is designed to be useful for different profiles: entrepreneurs, managers, consultants, investors, technical roles, product owners, risk profiles and policy makers.

Materials will be shared after the sessions through the course channels.

Final activities may require individual and/or group work, depending on the instructions given during the course.
