SOI Activities include Micromodules (from 1 to 6 ECTS), Challenges and Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) and more.
SOI Activities are labeled according to the European Competence Framework with following tags: DigComp, EntreComp, LifeComp, GreenComp.
Accordingly, students who collect 6 ECTS in the respective area will be awarded following certifications (Minor) in the form of Open Digital Badge:
Minor in DigComp
Minor in EntreComp
Minor in LifeComp
Minor in GreenComp
In the application period (typically August to mid September and mid December to mid January) students will find two online applications, one for Micromodules and one for Challenges and BIPs. In those applications, students are required to make their choices in terms of Challenges, BIP and/or Micromodules they want to attend. They need to check the time plan before indicating their choices in order to avoid that SOI activities overlap with other activities.
As soon as students receive the acceptance notification (typically within two weeks after the application deadline), they immediately inform the SOI Administration if they cannot attend the assigned activities (i.e. Micromodules, Challenges or BIPs), and subsequently follow the Office’s instructions.
Activities will be included in the “libretto” by the administration by November for the first semester and by April for the second semester. Activities chosen and not attended will remain in the “libretto” until graduation.
Once accepted for an activity, students will attend classes regularly.
Participation in SOI activities is free of charge for students enrolled at UniTrento or partner Universities. Students who are not enrolled at UniTrento or partner University at the start of the semester need to enroll with the “Single courses” modality.
Students who graduate during the same semester in which they attend the School of Innovation have two options:
Option 1: After graduation they enroll in “Single courses” so that the credits can be registered.
Option 2: They don’t enroll. In this case, SOI credits passed during the semester can still be counted for the Certificate they are pursuing, but they will not be registered officially since their University career is closed. In this case, students need to send to soi-info@unitn.it the list of all passed SOI activities in order to get the Certificate.
Class attendance is compulsory. Active participation is a founding principle of the School of Innovation and is an appreciated added value that ensures a fruitful experience.
In well-justified cases, absence can be accepted after notifying the instructor. However, 80% class attendance is required. Consistently, for 1 ECTS Micromodules absence is permitted only in very particular cases.
Students are required to inform the SOI administration in case they intend to withdraw from any activity at least one week before the start, in order to allow the administration to offer the place to other students in the waiting list.
For the in-person activities, no online participation is possible.
To ensure a productive, secure, and respectful learning environment during online classes, all students must follow these rules:
- Camera must be on during the entire lesson.
- If there are any technical issues preventing camera use, students must inform the instructor before class and make an effort to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
- Students must join the lesson from a closed, safe space (such as a room with a door) to prevent distractions, ensure privacy, and minimize potential risks associated with attending class from public or unsafe locations.
- Students must avoid attending class in locations where dangerous or uncomfortable situations may arise, such as outdoor areas, public spaces, or places with high traffic.
- Students must ensure the environment is free from interruptions to keep focus during the lesson.
Because SOI activities only have pass/fail as a final result, without grading, there is typically no traditional final exam. Therefore, the exam session will be used exclusively to record the passing grade and assign credits. We call it Registration session.
One or two Registration sessions will be organized each semester. Students will be informed via email in due course. Subsequently, students must register for the Registration session via Esse3 by the deadline.
SOI credits are extracurricular by default.
For following Departments of the University of Trento, curricular credits might be recognized for up to 6 ECTS:
- DEM-Department of Economics and Management
- Facoltà di Giurisprudenza
- Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences
Students need to contact their Departments to inform them about the kind of credits to be registered (extracurricular or curricular) for SOI and ECIU activities.
Full attendance is required both for the online and the offline parts of Challenges and BIPs. Assignments need to be completed by each student according to the instructors’ guidelines.
Important notice for Exchange students with Erasmus+ grant: Failure to meet the academic requirements, or unjustified absence, results in the impossibility to be awarded the credits and accordingly in the full repayment of the Erasmus grant.
SOI credits are extracurricular by default.
