How can the mobility of the future reconcile tourism development, environmental sustainability, and quality of life? This question is addressed by the forum “Mobility, Environment, Tourism: Young People as Agents of Change,” organized by the School of Innovation at the University of Trento in collaboration with Transdolomites, to be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, at the SOI headquarters at Via Tommaso Gar 16/2 in Trento.
The initiative was created to provide a platform for the ideas and projects of young people—students, researchers, associations, and startups—who in recent years have developed innovative solutions for sustainable mobility in Trentino. An opportunity for open dialogue between universities, the local community, and institutions, designed to highlight the creativity and commitment of the younger generation toward a greener and more accessible future.
A dialogue between young people and the local community
The meeting will open with an introductory presentation by Massimo Girardi (Transdolomites) on the state of regional mobility and opportunities for innovation related to responsible tourism, followed by official remarks from the City of Trento—with the participation of Michele Brugnara, Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and the Environment.
This will be followed by a presentation by Carlo Severini of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), who will offer an international perspective on integrated and sustainable transport models, illustrating how collaboration between public agencies and local communities can generate tangible benefits for citizens and travelers.
The Voices of Young People
The heart of the event will be dedicated to the ideas of the young participants, who will present experiences and projects developed within universities, associations, and cooperatives. Among the scheduled presentations:
- Prossima Fermata Project, Giovanni Migotto, former transportation delegate of the Student Council
- Prossima Fermata 2.0, Aronne Mattedi, Enea Menabue, Davide Santoni (Municipal Student Council) and Fabio Rinaldi (Student Council Transportation Delegate)
- SMEN (Smart Mobility and Eco Navigation), Maninder Kaur, Alessio Carabotta, Andrea Ognibeni, and Giulia Peloso (Master’s Degree Program in Management – Hybrid and Sustainable Enterprises track)
- Mobility in the Upper Garda region as seen by its young people, Francesco Picello (President of the Smart-Rovereto Cooperative)
- A Tube Map for Trento, Leonardo di Noia, Enea Menabue, Davide Santoni (Municipal Student Council)
- Simone Bassanelli (FBK Post-Doc)
The morning will conclude with a public debate and a final social gathering to foster networking among students, experts, administrators, and industry professionals.
The goal is to build, based on the experiences of young people, an ongoing dialogue between universities, public institutions, and local communities, capable of generating concrete ideas for sustainable and inclusive mobility in Trentino.
A civic innovation workshop
The forum represents a new step in the School of Innovation’s journey to promote collaboration, participation, and local impact through innovation education. An initiative that demonstrates how experiential and interdisciplinary training can become a tool for real change, fostering dialogue between academic knowledge and civic action.
